A myriad-minded man, Rabindranath Tagore (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941), was a poet, novelist, musician, painter and playwright who reshaped Bengali literature and music. At the same time he was a social reformer, educator, the ultimate humanist, environmentalist, champion of women’s rights, internationalist and an idealist philosopher considered among the great living men of his age whose voice was heard and listened to all over the world. Tagore’s ideals and guiding principles remain equally relevant in today’s world.
The West Coast Tagore Festival 2013 is a 2-day celebration of life and work of Nobel-laureate poet and World cultural icon, Rabindranath Tagore. Reputed scholars, multicultural poets and talented performing artists will present works of Tagore, through music, dance, poetry, mini-play, lectures, exhibits, etc.
The Festival is generously supported by the City of Richmond, and the esteemed partners include World Poetry Reading Series, Writers
International Network Canada, Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society and Aboriginal Writers Collective West Coast. While the media sponsors include Vancouver Coop Radio CFRO and Shaw Multicultural Channel.
