Job Title: Technical Assistant
Reports to: Technical Coordinator
Compensation: $18 per hour, plus 4% vacation accrual paid out at the end of the term When: June 28th to August 20th
Hours: 30 Hours a week for 8 weeks (240 Hours)
Employees are Unionised and are entitled to 30 minutes unpaid meal break after 5 consecutive hours of work.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Technical Coordinator, the purpose of the Technical Assistant position is to provide support to 300+ volunteers who are producing radio shows and podcasts by and for members of diverse and marginalized communities across the greater Vancouver region from their homes, by phone and over the internet. The outcome for this position will be to gain meaningful work experience in the Broadcast Media field. You will be conducting research, managing databases, managing communications (including zoom presentations, audio/video production and digital marketing), and building leadership skills through volunteer training and coordination.
The specific tasks and responsibilities of the Technical Support Assistant will be to:
• Manage the volunteer, technical and music library databases
• Coordinate equipment loans to volunteer programmers, may include equipment research, calibration, and distribution
• Produce and conduct virtual training sessions on proper set up and use of home-based recording and editing equipment and software
• Participate in the production and post production of live radio and recorded podcasts by and for members of diverse communities
• Participate in the production of public service announcements on behalf of various community
based organizations
• Assist with social media engagement across Facebook, Instagram and YouTube • Assist the Technical, Programming and Fundraising Coordinators with basic office tasks (mailing letters, organizing supplies and cleaning)
• Participate in weekly staff meetings, and any other relevant meetings.
Qualifications:
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, reliable with a strong work ethic
• Strong verbal / written communication skills
• Strong research skills and organizational skills
• Experience working with and coordinating volunteers
• Ability to work in a fast paced, loosely structured environment with minimal supervision
• Graphic design and layout experience an asset
• Managing Web & Social Media pages on behalf of an organization an asset
• Experience working for non-profit, community organizations an asset
• Community radio experience and/or video experience an asset
• Strong document management skills an asset
