The Community Radio Fund of Canada proudly supports “Youth Outreach Project”
Ottawa and Vancouver (September 11, 2018) – Mr. Roger Ouellette, President of the Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) and Mr. Bryan McKinnon Executive Director of Vancouver Co-op Radio (CFRO, 100.5 FM), Vancouver’s Community Radio Station, are pleased to announce that $49,959 will go towards the implementation of the "Youth Outreach Project". This is the 12th time that the CRFC provides financial support to CFRO under various programs, bringing the total awarded to $263,415. The funds for this project were made available under the Radiometresprogram, a funding program aimed to improve local programming and volunteer participation.
The funds received will be put towards the recruitment of Youth Programmers to provide sustainable volunteer participation to CFRO’s Radio Show Collectives, which produce creative and engaging local content for communities whose voices are underrepresented in the mainstream media. The Youth Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing online, on-air and in-person Volunteer Recruitment strategies in order to attract a steady flow of new programmers to the station. Strategies include reaching out to community organizations and university groups, providing a visible presence at community events, and participating in social media campaigns.
We at Vancouver Co-op Radio are thrilled by the opportunities created through Radiometres program funding. As a volunteer run community recording studio and radio station we have the unique ability to provide access to space, training, equipment, broadcasting and podcasting for diverse and disadvantaged youth across the Lower Mainland.
Since its inception in 2012, the Radiometres program enabled a total investment of more than $12 million in the campus and community radio sector. It is an impressive number of 360 funded projects that have been approved. “I’m happy to add Youth Outreach Project to the growing list of funded initiatives. This project will no doubt contribute to increasing the visibility of underrepresented groups in the community and give them a chance to have their voices heard,” says the CRFC President, Roger Ouellette.
